Online Evening Talk: The Evolution of Skin Colour and What it Means to All of Us – The Evolution of Skin Colour and What it Means to All of Us: Sat, 26 Sept 2020, 5.30 pm (EAT)
The Evolution of Skin Colour and What it Means to All of Us
Saturday, 26 September 2020
By The Evolution of Skin Colour and What it Means to All of Us
Evan Pugh University Professor of Anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University
Human skin colour is an evolutionary adaption related to the intensity of sunlight on the earth’s surface. In the last 20 years, understanding of the trait has improved significantly, with great strides having been made in understanding the function of skin colour and its genetic basis, including the tremendous diversity of skin colours in Africa. Skin colour is relevant to human health. It has also been misused as a criterion for defining human races. When these facts are clearly understood and taught in all schools, we can all live healthier and happier lives.

KMS Talk on Zoom – Meet the Natodomeri Lion of Northwestern Kenya, Thur 4 June 2020
Welcome. Karibu.
What does learning about the Natodomeri Lion teach us about our current society?
We’re glad you’re here to learn more about what we have in mind for the rest of 2020.
First we are going to kick off a few mini presentations with NMK researchers and others. These mini presentations are an opportunity for you to hear from and ask questions about a topic or issue from an expert which you might not traditionally be able to access. After each of these events, more information on the topic will be shared so that you can continue the exploration.
Next, we are going to create new types of events and activities. For example, a live quiz, an offline scavenger hunt and other tasks which you can do on your own.
A few tips to get the most out of the next few months (understanding this is new for many of us)
- Have an open mind
- Offer constructive feedback on what you liked about an event and did not.
- Volunteer ideas and as creator if an activity or task if you have a special talent/skill
