Day Outing -Tour of Olorgesailie Pre-Historic Site: Sat 23 June 2018

Guided Tour of Olorgesailie Pre-Historic Site

Saturday 23 June 2018

This will be a tour that will combine birding and pre-history.

Located along Magadi road, about 1.30 hour drive from Nairobi, the Olorgesailie pre-historic site is about 70 km from Nairobi.

The site is world renowned as a factory of “ Stone Tools”  with the largest number of tools to show and it offers an exceptional opportunity for reconstruction of conditions of life during the early part of the Stone Age.The prominence and accumulation of human tools represents actual camping places of early men and evidence that human species had a tropical origin.

The site is in a lake basin that existed about 100,000 to 200,000 years ago and has excellently preserved the biological and cultural evidence about the evolution of man.

At the museum, we shall enjoy learning about the pre-history discoveries made at this site, the museum collection of artefacts, guided by the sites curator

The site is also a bird watchers paradise citing the highest number of migratory bird species in Kenya. We shall bird on the way and at the Museums surroundings. Expected birds species include: African Grey Hornbill, Verreaux’s Eagle, Yellow-spotted Petronia, Red-fronted Barbet, Hildebrandt’s Starling, Tawny Eagle, Eastern Chanting Goshawk, Brown Snake-Eagle, Blue-naped Mousebird, Green-winged Pytilia, Grey Wren Warbler, Rattling Cisticola, White-bellied Canary, Red and Yellow Barbet and Rufous Chatterer.
