Call for Artists to Register for the 2016 KMS Art Show

KMS ART SHOW 2016

Dear Artist,

The Kenya Museum Society (KMS) is again holding its Affordable Art Show, which has had increased success each of the last 3 years. Selected artwork will be exhibited and sold for the purpose of supporting the National Museums of Kenya (NMK). As before, the exhibition will showcase the diversity and richness of the creativity of Kenya’s artists with a range of experience.

The opening of the Art Show will take place in the Courtyard behind the Louis Leakey Auditorium on Friday evening, 28 October 2016. There is a Ksh 500 entry fee to the Friday opening to be paid by all, including artists. The show will continue on Saturday and Sunday, 29-30 October.  No entry fee is charged on Saturday and Sunday.

We are pleased to inform you that you are one of the artists invited to submit to this show by entering a maximum of two of your pieces. Please note that no third A5 pieces will be accepted this year.  The Art Show is open to painting, sculpture and mixed media work. Submissions will be juried. Pre-selection will be based on the following:

1) Each piece must be limited in size to a maximum of 100cm x 100cm  (paintings and   sculpture) to facilitate buyers carrying their work home in their cars.   Please note that in our experience people are more likely to buy smaller pieces.

2)  The work must be created in 2016.

3)  All paintings must be framed/stretched and ready for exhibiting, preferably with no

glass.  All fragile 3-dimensioanl pieces must be submitted in protective packagingPlease

note: KMS will not be responsible for fragile pieces of work.

4)  All submissions must be priced at no more than Ksh 99,999.  Artists must price their

     work reasonably and affordably.

Your work should be delivered to the former NMK Boardroom at the rear of the Courtyard on Wednesday, 19 October, strictly between 10am and 3pm.  Artists from outside Nairobi who send work by public transport must make sure that the work arrives no later than Monday, 17 October.

Unsold art must be picked up on Monday, 31 October, strictly between 10am and 3pm. Any art not collected by that date and time will become the property of KMS and will be used to raise further funds for NMK.

Please confirm your intent to participate as soon as possible to KMS’s email, info@kenyamuseumsociety.org, giving your name, phone and email contacts and stating the type of work you will submit (painting, sculpture or mixed media). Thank you.

We look forward to your participation.

With best wishes,
