PS: If you have some books or items that you would like to donate to us towards this fundraising activity, please bring them to the KMS office, open Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, or at the KMS Shop, inside the Nairobi National Museum. The shop is open daily from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. Otherwise, let us know and we can organize pickup.

Trip to Tanzania – 15 – 21 October 2017

Join us for a 7 day, 6 night trip to visit the northern circuit of Tanzania including Lake Natron, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Oldupai/ Laetoli prehistoric sites.

Vehicle – We will travel by overland truck on this trip, except for the day we visit Ngorongoro crater when will be transported by Landcruisers. The trucks have glass paned sliding windows, padded seating, and plenty of storage space for luggage, gear, equipment, supplies etc. There is room for mountain bikes for those interested in bringing one. A cook will whip up three meals a day for us that fit various dietary requirements.
Accommodation – This is a camping trip, but there is the possibility of rooms at both overnight sites at an additional cost. Tents and mattresses are provided; you bring your own sleeping bag. The dome tents accommodate up to 3 people.

Included- Transportation, all camping equipment except for sleeping bags, meals except for lunch on Sunday and Saturday, cook, camping fees, and park fees.

Excluded- Tanzania visas, lunch on Sunday and Saturday, cultural visits, optional hikes: village walk, Ol Doinyo Lengai, etc.

Visas- Kenyan citizens do not need a visa to enter Tanzania. However, you will need a passport and yellow fever card. Other nationalities pay the visa fee according to country in US dollars.

What to Bring- Passport, yellow fever certificate, anti-malarial tablets, insect repellent, sleeping bag, warm jacket for night time

The Traveling Telescope: Exploring the Universe, Sat 25 November 2017

Join Kenya Museum Society and The Traveling Telescope at Nairobi National Museum as we explore the night sky.We shall have a mobile planetarium, remote navigator and one of the largest telescope in Kenya.
The focus for the 25th November will be the Moon. It will be at ‘first quarter’, meaning it will be almost overhead at sunset and will set at midnight. During this phase of the Moon we’ll be able to see incredible details on the surface, including craters, mountains and some of NASA’s Apollo mission landing sites.

We will also use a powerful laser pointers to highlight different constellations, bright stars and other objects of interest in the sky. We call what we do ‘edutainment’, where we share our passion for observing the Cosmos in a fun yet informative way
Event is open for kids aged 3 years and above as well as adults.
