Masai Mara migration Safari

This is our annual trip to see the wildebeest migration. It is a three night trip. You really need three nights to appreciate the park. We shall stay at a simple but very pleasant tented camp near Olomutatiek gate, outside the park. On Thursday we shall not enter the park so park entry is needed for 2 days only.
Programme
Thursday- Depart from Nairobi early. Picnic lunch enroute. Afternoon bird walk around the camp.
Friday- Spend the whole day in the southern part of the park, and go to Sand River. Try to see a crossing on the Mara River if possible. Picnic lunch. Dinner back at camp.
Saturday- Whole day spent in the northern part of the camp, especially Musiara swamp. Picnic lunch. Dinner at camp.
Sunday- Pre-breakfast game drive if time allows. Depart for Nairobi after breakfast. Arrive back in Nairobi late afternoon.
Cost- 15,700ksh sharing. Single room supplement is 1,500per day.
If you wish to go for 2 nights only you can do so at a cost of 12,500ksh.
Included- Accommodation and all meals for 3 days. Does not include picnic lunch for Thursday.
Not included- Transport and park entry. Entry for citizens and residents is 1,200 per day, and non- residents $80 per day.
Book and pay by 20 July. The Mara is in great demand during the migration.

Weekend Safari – Lake Magadi and Lake Natron

Escape the cold in Nairobi. Visit these two surreal soda lakes in the Rift Valley. The lakes are famous for birdlife, including flamingoes. There is also some game. The area has very dramatic landscapes and is hot and dry. Lake Natron is famous for its mirages and views of the volcano Ole Lengai.
We shall stay at the charming Losiijo Camp. Set along the Ewaso Nyiro river, it is shaded under giant fig trees. It is set in a conservancy area, run by the Maasai. The conservancy has some game and prolific birdlife.
Programme
Friday- Depart from Nairobi early. We shall go across the causeway on Lake Magadi and have a picnic beside the shores of the lake. We then head towards Ngurumann Escarrpment and finally to our camp. Afternoon walk in the area. Dinner.
Saturday- After breakfast drive through amazing landscapes to Lake Natron on the Tanzanian border. Dramatic views of the volcano Ole Lengai. Picnic at Lake Natron. Return to camp late afternoon. Dinner.
Sunday- Early morning game drive. Depart for Nairobi after breakfast. There will be a choice of returning direct to Nairobi or doing a round of Lake Magadi. Picnic lunch at the Museum pre-historic site at Olorgesaille.
Included- Accommodation, 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and picnic lunch on Sunday.
Not included- Picnic lunch for Friday and Saturday, transport and community conservancy charge. They charge 700ksh per day.

This promises to be a very special trip to Lake Naivasha area. We shall do a game drive as well as hike through the gorge in Hell’s Gate National park.
We stay at Karuru Tuu, a large, charming family house overlooking Lake Naivasha. Set in serene surroundings it has attractive gardens, a fireplace and a large deck built around a tree. Here we shall go on birdwalks and generally explore the lakeshore. Extra activities include horse riding and a boat trip.

Bizarre Bazaar Summer Craft Fair @ Karura Forest

A Day Outing to ICIPE ( International Centre for Insect Physiology & Ecology)

ICIPE is an international scientific research institute, headquartered in Nairobi, that works towards improving lives and livelihoods of people in Africa. It was founded in 1970 by a renowned Kenyan entomologist, Thomas Odhiambo, with strong encouragement from Carl Djerassi, a professor of Chemistry at Stanford University.

The center’s main objective is; Research and development of alternative and environmentally friendly pest and vector management strategies, conservation and use of the rich insect biodiversity found in Africa among others. It is the only international center in sub-Saharan Africa working primarily on arthropods, while focusing on sustainable development using human health as the basis and the environment as the foundation for sustainability.

Activities:
Guided tours to;
• Beekeeping Museum
The museum showcases newly developed technologies of hiving stingless bees as well as the honey bees.
• Honey Quality Control Laboratory
In the quality control laboratory, extensive tests are carried out to test any impurities in honey including pesticides and antibiotics and to determine the quality of honey.
• Royal Jelly Laboratory
In this lab, royal jelly (a honey bee secretion that is used in the nutrition of larvae, as well as adult queens) which is harvested from the apiaries in the field is processed for consumption as a food supplement.
• Instrumental Insemination Laboratory
This lab undertakes instrumental insemination, which is a proven and reliable method of controlled mating, providing an essential tool for honey bee research, bee breeding and stock maintenance.
• Honey processing and Value addition laboratory
Processing of honey (honey bees and stingless bees)
Processing of beeswax to candles
• Silkworm harvesting
