Western Kenya, Lake Victoria and Kakamega Forest
2-6 April, 2015
This 5 day trip will be part historic and part nature. We shall cover some of the history of the Railway in Western Kenya and visit the interesting stations of Londiani, Kipkelion and Fort Ternan.
We stay for 2 nights at Kwessos house. Built in the 1920’s it is a charming home with extensive gardens and a heated swimming pool. We can have long walks on the 3,000 acre estate, visit a waterfall and a dam. Horse riding is available at 1,500ksh an hour. For the more experienced riders there is a cross-country course.
On 4 April we proceed to Kisumu and have lunch by the lake. After lunch we go to Kakamega forest. It is a remnant of the great rainforests that once stretched from western Africa across to the eastern shores. We shall stay two nights at the serene, old fashoined Rondo Retreat. The next day there will be a walk in the forest.
