25 – 28 June (3 nights)

The hills and Kerio valley offer superb scenery. The Tugen range is heavily forested; the Cheranganis are heavily farmed except for the peaks, but both are spectacular. As the end of the rainy season approaches both ranges should be lush and green. The descent into Kerio valley offers breathtaking views. The whole area also has prolific birdlife.

We shall stay at the simple but very nice Sego Club. It has a small pool and a rooftop veranda with 360 degree views of the Tugen hills and the Elgeyo escarpment. We have our sundowners on the rooftop under a tree!

Programme

Thur – A stop in Nakuru to see Menangai crater, the second largest caldera on earth. Drive into the Tugen Hills, visit Kipsaraman museum. Picnic lunch. Dinner at Sego.

Fri – After breakfast pass through the Kimwarer mining area, explore the dramatic gorge at Chebloch. Picnic lunch at Chebloch. Continue to Rimoi  park. It has elephant and nearby is Lake Kamnarok. I have been assured the road into the park has improved. Dinner at Sego.

Sat – Drive into the beautiful Cherangani hills. Time  permitting members can walk up to the dreamy Torok waterfall (4km uphill). Yet another picnic lunch! Dinner at Sego.

Sun – Depart for Nairobi after breakfast. Short stop in Nakuru.
